A warm, practical, and thoughtful approach

Tara's work is grounded in the belief that psychological support should feel both compassionate and useful.

For many people, the struggle is not only about symptoms such as anxiety or low mood. It is also about identity, confidence, relationships, habits, health, and the way life can feel harder to manage when stress and self-care begin to collide.

Her aim is to provide a space where people feel heard, respected, and supported to make meaningful change at a pace that is realistic and sustainable.

Professional background

Tara holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology and commenced university psychology studies in 2003. Her background includes private practice, teaching, conference presentations, research, diabetes-related education, and specialist bariatric work.

Her professional contributions also include presentations in psychology and diabetes-related settings, publication contributions, and teaching experience.

Special interest in bariatric, weight, and health-related psychology

Since 2011, Tara has worked in private practice, including with Associate Professor Peter Nogle's specialised bariatric support team in Williamstown, where she performed pre-operative assessments and provided post-operative care.

In that role, she supported patients with motivational and behavioural difficulties, binge eating and other eating-related struggles, body image and identity concerns, self-esteem, relational stress, and symptoms of anxiety or depression associated with weight.

She has also supported people managing chronic disease, including diabetes, and has experience helping people adapt to the emotional demands that can come with long-term health conditions.

Personal as well as professional understanding of Type 1 diabetes

Tara brings personal as well as professional insight into life with Type 1 diabetes.

After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 14, she became increasingly aware of the challenges of managing a chronic condition, including shock, denial, weight changes, burnout, and the pressure of trying to adapt well over time.

This perspective sits alongside her professional work supporting people with diabetes and contributing to diabetes-related education and support initiatives.

Broader diabetes-related work

Tara has helped develop and is a clinical psychologist for My Health Explained, an online diabetes education program for people living with or caring for someone with diabetes.

She has also been involved with the Danii Foundation's educational health team since 2015, providing psychological assistance and running Type 1 diabetes support groups.
